FAQ’s
1. What are the health benefits of
ginger?
Ginger has been used for over 2500
years as a remedy for appetite loss, indigestion,
motion sickness, nausea and vomiting. Ginger
has also been used for sore throats, headaches,
ulcerative colitis, some types of menstrual
and arthritis pain, and fevers and aches
caused by colds and flu.
Ginger is thought to improve muscle tone
in the gastrointestinal tract. A few studies
have provided preliminary evidence suggesting
that ginger may be also useful in relieving
both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Other traditional uses for ginger such
as for relieving toothaches, have not
been proven by clinical studies. More
research is needed for these and other
possible uses of ginger.
2. How
does ginger help alleviate Asthma and
Allergies?
Ginger alleviates allergies and asthma
by offsetting effects of the platelet-activating
factor (PAP) which initiates inflammatory
processes in allergy and asthma.
3. How
does ginger aid the digestive system?
Ginger, an aromatic bitter, stimulates
digestion and keeps intestinal muscles
toned. This eases transport of substances
through the digestive tract and lessens
irritation to the intestinal walls. Ginger
may also protect the stomach from the
damaging effect of alcohol and non steroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen)
and may help prevent ulcers.
4. How does ginger relieve
Osteo Arthritis and Inflammation?
Ginger inhibits production of immune-system
components called cytokines which may
create a long-term tendency toward inflammation.
Ginger also stimulates blood circulation
and thus helps disorders marked by swelling
and pain, such as arthritis. Studies have
also shown that ginger can relieve pain
without the side effects typically found
when using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDs) and steroids
5. How
does ginger help fight against parastic
infection?
Ginger contains a chemical called zingibain
that dissolves parasites. In laboratory
trials, ginger extracts have been shown
to kill the anisakid worm (a parasite
occasionally found in raw fish) within
sixteen hours. Ginger tea is useful as
a supplement in treating schistosomiasis,
a parasitic disease.
